Playing the drums to vocal tracks using Yamaha Oak Custom Drums

Playing to tracks is fun when you know the song but if you don’t it would be best to chart out the song first.

Here is a video of myself playing to a vocal band track of Nashville artist Jill Sissel’s new album that I produced.

I charted out the song then played to the minus drum tracks and turned on the video flip camera. I  mixed the live drums to the song tracks in Cubase 5 .  I then uploaded the video and replaced the video audio track with my mixed tracks. Looks and sounds great.

Playing the drums in 7/4 using Yamaha Oak Custom Drums and Drumfun minus drum CD’s

Playing in 7/4 is not as hard as you would think. I practiced this pattern for an hour and recording the tracks in my studio. I used Drumfun.com cd called “Playing the Odds”. The whole CD is dedicated to playing in 3, 7 and 9. Get fun.

The quality is great so I had a easy time mixing my drums to the Cd tracks.

Check out my studio Betterthanademo.com and Drumfun.com for more tracks.

You will have an easy time playing with the cd’s if you chart the song first. I used my charting method so I could play the song from the beginning to the end and knew how when to end or take play a fill.

Go to easydrumchart.com to buy the method.

Yamaha Oak Custom Drums, Check out how they sound before you purchase

Hi Drummers,
Check out this set of Yamaha Oak custom drums. I bought these after Dave Weckl played them at PASIC 2007 and use them in my studio. Now I want to share their great sound with you.
I recorded them in my studio. I play drums for songwriters and artist here in Nashville. I am using 9 mic’s and a sonor piccolo snare. Since I am the charting guru, I have charted a song from the drumfun.com cd collection of minus drum CD’s. I love playing with the CD’s and recommend them to all drummers. There is a CD for everyone.

Check out easydrumchart.com for a book on how to chart a song.

Charting and ORGANIZING YOUR MATERIALS

When charting for a group that you work with for years, you will find that you have so many charts that a spiral notebook does not work. You will find that you have to many charts and you are constantly moving the charts around and reusing them in many different ways such as set order or show changes.

To fix this problem, use a three ring binder for all your charts. This method will enable you to change the order of your charts as your show or sets change. It is always more efficient to put your charts in the order of the set you are playing and turn the pages so easily and quickly. Keep all your charts in the binder with your blank charts so you are ready for last moment changes and making new ones on the spot. Use dividers to separate material from different bands or just by set. Being organized is the best way to get the job done correctly and efficiently which equals call backs and call backs equal more money and gigs.

Good Luck

Drummers don’t need drum lessons

We need knowledge!!!

We need the knowledge of the music business and to make more money we have to keep up with the new media.

Drummers don’t need lessons as much as we need to know how to sell ourselves  and get work.  To help drummers get work I have just released a new program teaching drummers how to use new media to get more work.

We all are not playing the drums for our health, (though hauling them can be quite a workout.)

With the economy being the way it is, I decided to stop giving away drum lessons and dig into my professional experience and teach drummers how to get more jobs.

We are professionals always looking for gigs and hoping for the day you get that call for an audition with a national touring band. I have been there.

The good news is that those jobs exist, but the bad news is you have to be in the right place at the right time to find those auditions.

I want you to have that edge over other drummers so you will be

in the right place at the right time.

I have added two new bonuses:

#1 How To Get That Audition with a National Act or Road Band and Start Touring

#2 The Top 27 Questions to Ask When You Get That Call

Plus

A Drummers Boot Camp, How to Promote Yourself and Make Money

that you will get for free with your purchase of

How to Write a Fast and Easy Drum Chart.

With the combination of all this materials, you will have all the tools you need to land that audition.

I want to invite you to revisit Easy Drum Chart.com and decide for yourself if you are one of those drummers that needs that edge to land the big money gigs, the national touring gigs, those USO tour gigs.

To your success

Musicians do well even if the economy is down.

What do drummers need most not just these days but everyday.

Know the answer? Work!!!!

We always want to work. I am sure that everyone is complaining about the economy but musicians should not worry to much. I  Remember my grandfather was a bass player with the NBC Orchestra and he worked all the time during the depression. Everyone was still going out to have fun even though things seemed to be bad for everyone else.

My uncle worked with the late Louie Bellson at one time and when I finally got in touch with him, (he endorsed my book) he remember my uncle.

So musicians always work even when things go bad, at least that is what they are making us believe.

We always come through hard times and as musicians we always will do well.

Keep charting and working
